Guidelines for preparation and submission of abstracts
for poster presentations
1 - Abstract submission
Abstracts must be submitted in English.
Abstracts can only be submitted before Monday May the 25th 2009 via the email address posters@fam-ophthalmo.com
The abstract must not exceed 300 words. They should be delivered in a standard word-processor format (Microsoft Word, or compatible format).
Abstract Content:
- The abstract should be informative and detailed.
- The title should be capitalized.
- Maintain consistency in authors' names on multiple abstracts to avoid duplication in the final program book's Author Index. The presenting author name should be listed first and underlined.
-3 keywords describing the abstract are requested
The abstract should ideally adhere to the following format with some flexibility for "commentary" type abstracts:
Introduction and objectives;
Methods;
Results;
Conclusions.
Authors must indicate any financial funding for this research (i.e. Industry, Foundations, etc.).
Avoid excessive abbreviations in the abstract. Abbreviations may only be used after the words are written out in full at first mention.
It is the author's responsibility to submit the abstract in perfect order with no errors in spelling or grammar.
Abstracts will not be re-typed or corrected.
Abstracts not received in proper format will not be considered by the Program Committee.
Authors must disclose any potential conflict of interest for this research.
PowerPoint presentations using a PC data projector will be the standard method of visual data presentation. Facilities for slide projection and overhead projectors will NOT be available.
Receipt of all abstracts will be acknowledged by email
All accepted abstracts will be published in the Congress Proceedings and online.
2 - Abstract acceptation
You will be notified if your poster is accepted by Monday May the 29th 2009 the latest by email. You will then have to confirm your participation and register to the congress if not already done.
3 - Poster Presentation preparation
You are requested to choose between traditional paper poster or electronic poster presentation.
- Posters will be displayed in the Congress Venue, grouped by topics, on different poster boards that will be indicated onsite. - Electronic posters will be presented in the same area, displayed on several computers.
- You are requested to stand near your poster or near the electronic posters area at least between 12:30 and 14:00 during the day of your display in order to discuss with the congress participants.
- Your poster should be set up on the day of your presentation in the session venue before 8AM – Electronic posters will be uploaded at the same time on the computer network.
- Poster boards and pins/adhesives for hanging are available in the Poster Viewing Area
- The paper poster size: 90 cm / 36 in (width) by 150 cm / 60 in (height)
- The electronic poster format : between 3 and 20 screens maximum, available in PDF format or in Powerpoint 2003 format (powerpoint format will be converted on site to PDF by the technical team)
- Display Poster No., Title, Authors and Institution at the top of the poster (or on the first screen for the electronic format)
- Display details of financial funding for this research (i.e. NIH, NCI, Industry, Foundations, etc.) or potential conflict of interest in the lower left hand corner of the poster (or on the first screen for the electronic format)
- The abstract should ideally adhere to the following format with some flexibility for “commentary” type posters: an introduction; objectives; methods; results; conclusions
- Authors may chose to provide interested delegates with a single page copy of their abstract
- Your paper poster should be taken down at the end of the day immediately after the last session. If your poster is not taken down within the indicated time-frame, your poster will be removed by the conference organizer and subsequent recovery of your poster cannot be guaranteed.
- Both papers and electronics Posters will be discussed during the plenary session. Allowed time for each presentation will be 3 minutes + 2 minutes of discussion. Presentations will be supported by Powerpoint slideset (3 slides max).
4 - Main dates
- May 25, 2009: deadline for submission on posters@fam-ophthalmo.com
- May 29, 2009: notification of acceptation or refusal
- June 4-8 2009: 4th French American Ophthalmology Symposium, New York.
